PM - The Best Assist & Adjustment Workshop Ever!
The Gift of Giving: Yoga Assist and Adjustments
In this highly enjoyable session, Paul will train you to skillfully
give his "Top 10 Assists of All Time"! These are the assists that people love to
receive time and time again. Paul has given over 3,000 private sessions and retained
clients for over 10 years without cancellation.
One of the secrets to this is how to give the best assists and hands-on work with
the students. You will learn how to use your hands, feet and body to give assists
that only heal and never harm. This session is open to all students,
while being particularly useful to yoga teachers.
Day 2 Teacher Training
Sequencing Miami Beach Power Yoga
(Handout provided)
Paul defines 10 Sequencing Categories from which sequences will be organically
inspired. Expect plenty of tips and guidelines about sequencing for
efficiency of flowing with alignment. Analysis of using a long flowing series versus
direct side-to-side changing, using cycles within cycles (vinyasa kramas).
10 Sequencing Categories:
- Warm Ups. Many new, innovative moves suitable for all levels will be demonstrated,
discussed and practiced. Several Easy Does It and warm up sequences will be taught,
including a unique, comprehensive joint opening sequence.
- Surya Namaskar Breakdown. For each component (asana) of the sun salutations, we
will cover (a) fundamentals of alignment, (b) how to present easier or more difficult
options, and (c) how to safely transition between them.
- Arm Strengthening and Arm Balancing. Many upper body strengthening poses and exercise
will be given. We will learn how to safely offer strength building options for beginner
students, while simultaneously offering more difficult poses and variations to advanced
students in the same class. Paul shows how to progressively sequence upper body
strengthening in between cycles and sprinkle in arm options throughout the class
to make classes easier or harder.
- Standing Forward Bends. Paul will teach his foundational Triangle and Warrior sequences.
These include the 6 Part Triangle Series, Paul's Warrior Series I & II, and how
to end sequences with either a twist of a balancing pose. Logic in linking lots
of likable lunges!
- Balancing Poses. Standing on One Leg. We will explore both long series and direct
side-to-side switching. How to mix balancing poses in a seem-less flow. How to offer
options for all levels simultaneously.
- Hip Opening and Seated Forward Bend Sequences. Seated poses. Moving towards Padmasana
(lotus). Variations in Lotus. Rehabilitating hip and knee injuries. Binding. Seated
twists. Learn the key to avoiding back pain.
- Core Cylinder. The mid-section of the body constitutes the core cylinder. This includes
the abs, the 2 sides, and the lower back. All four sides will be addressed (not
just the abs!), comprising a complete North, South, East, West understanding of
the core. You will learn Paul's unique "Deep Bandha" technique, as well as both
traditional and innovative abdominal exercises/poses.
- Back-bending Level I & Level II. Starting with the poses that open (stretch) the
muscles on the front of the body. Conditioning for back bends. How to proceed logically,
how to know when to stop! Baby Back-bends for strengthening the lower back. Level
II, advanced back-bending poses.
- Inversions. Going upside down. An analysis of the headstand and shoulderstand. Finally,
a comprehensive look at what order to offer these poses.
- Final Relaxation. Paul's Patented Blissful Final Relaxation Sequence. Relaxing pranayama.
Using a spiritual message, using silence, using meaningful music. Proper alignment.
Aromatherapy. Different ways of bringing students out of relaxation. Options in
"om-ing" and ideas about how to end classes in a profound, awe inspiring, grateful
way
